Hello, my name is Tom, and I provide individual counselling and psychotherapy for adults.
I offer face to face therapy sessions in Tutbury, which is accessible from Derbyshire and Staffordshire. The location is central, with bus routes from Derby city centre, Burton upon Trent, Uttoxeter and surrounding villages. Free car parking is available a short walk away.
Alternatively, I offer a limited number of telephone and Zoom sessions for clients wishing to access remote therapy.
Is counselling for me?
We all experience times of difficulty in our lives when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose. You may want to explore and process your thoughts, feelings and experiences in the presence and safety of another person. I offer a confidential space for you do this.
Therapy helps us make sense of those challenging times and can enhance self-awareness on your personal journey. It can offer you a better understanding of yourself, empowering you to make the choices that feel right for you, freeing you from the patterns of the past that have limited your perceptions.
About counselling and psychotherapy with me
As a humanistic and integrative therapist, my approach is informed by a range of relational and developmental theories to assist working with all parts of the individual to enhance personal growth during their therapy journey.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy on a short, medium or long term basis, depending on your personal needs, and I work with a wide range of issues.
I hold a BSc (hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy, following my training at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. I have experience of providing therapy in several organisations including Mind and the NHS, alongside my experience of working in mental health services for several years.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), and I adhere to their professional code of ethics.

Therapy takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.
Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression; abuse or trauma - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to make sense of. Therapy helps you gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.
Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you consider why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

I offer a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a safe and confidential environment, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives - and perhaps a new understanding of yourself. Counselling and psychotherapy aren’t about giving you solutions or advice, but empowering you to make your own changes.
